"My first Date in the Tokyo jungle
During my time of preparation for my first journey to Japan I heard from a former Architecture student from our faculty, who lives in Tokyo for some years already. I got in contact with him and was happy, that he would like to meet me in Tokyo directly. Yes, but were can two strange people meet in this big City? Though he and I look western, and that for sure would make it more simple.
So then in Tokyo at the telephone his proposal was “HACHIKO”. That’s “THE meeting point” and erverybody knows it! To be punctual I went early to the huge Shinjuku Stadtion (or was it Shibuja?) to search for that place. And indeed, the little dog statue named HACHIKO was easy to find. This place was like a small urban oasis in that hustle and bustle at the exit of the station. There is really a little bit of calmness since indeed a lot of waiting people are sitting there patiently. And I among them, waiting for my first date in Tokyo.
Unfortunately I have forgotten the exact legend of that little HACHIKO who hardened into stone while waiting and waiting. Maybe someone knows that story and can help. I only know this little dog surely still waits today for its lost master. Oh by the way we finally met of course and all without Mobil phone, GPS or else….
